The process for requesting an appointment at the immigration office in Madrid has changed, and in this article, you will discover the 4 steps you must follow to do it successfully.

In addition, we will see which specific procedures allow this new procedure, and where to make an appointment for the remaining ones.

Nowadays, most of the procedures with the immigration office can be done online, with your digital certificate.

However, many foreigners prefer to continue to do it in person, and for this, it is necessary to make an appointment at the immigration office.

At the end of 2022, this appointment process changed in Madrid, and it changed considerably.

That is why in case you want to request any of the following residency options in person, you will have to follow the new process detailed below:

Step 1: Gather all the required documents

The first thing you will need to do is to prepare all the necessary documentation to submit your residency application, as you will need to include all of it in order to make an appointment.

So, this first step includes thoroughly understanding all the requirements of the particular permit you are applying for, and gathering that documentation.

Step 2: Scan all the documents

Once you have all the documentation ready, you will need to scan it in pdf format.

In addition, you will need to download and fill in this application form, which you will also need to scan once it is duly completed.

Step 3: Submit all your documents via email

Next, you will have to send all these documents that you have scanned to the email address [email protected].

In this email, you must include as an attachment the documents and the form you have filled in, and you cannot do it using shared files (either Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.).

That is, the documents themselves must be included in the same email.

These documents can occupy, at most, 20Mb.

If they are larger than this, you can separate them into different emails, which you must send one after the other, and indicate their numbering in the subject line (email 1, email 2, etc.).

Step 4: Get your appointment confirmed

Once you have sent the mail, the Immigration Office in Madrid will receive your application and, if you have ALL the documentation, as well as the application form that we have attached above, they will assign you an appointment (day and time).

You will be notified of the appointment date by email and by SMS notification.

Please note that if you have to submit several applications, you will have to request an appointment for each of them (following all the steps we have seen above in full for each application).

Procedures that CAN'T be requested through this new appointment system

It is very important that you take into account exactly what kind of procedures this procedure by email will allow you to get an appointment in Madrid for (and therefore for which procedures it does not apply).

Thus, you will NOT be able to use this procedure if you want to make an appointment for:

On the other hand, in case of processing any of the following applications:

  • Employee work permit (initial card or modification from another residence authorization)
  • Self-employed work permit (modification from student or EU family member).
  • Recovery of the long-term residence or recovery of the EU long-term residency
  • Work authorization

You must do it through this web page.

Once inside, you must select the Office of C/Silva, 19, and in the drop-down menu “TRÁMITES OFICINAS DE EXTRANJERÍA” the type of appointment requested.
